Special Education Program
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary St. Richard Catholic School is proud to offer a special education program that is truly unique in Cutler Bay. We provide both an inclusion program and a self-contained program, giving students the opportunity to learn in a setting that best supports their needs. Our self-contained classes offer specialized resources to address learning deficits while nurturing the whole child, and our inclusion program allows students to thrive alongside their peers in the general education classroom with added support.
Our certified special education teachers are trained to meet academic needs as well as minor behavioral concerns, always with patience, care, and a focus on growth. We keep our class sizes small — capping each grade at just 14 students — and when grade levels are combined, we divide them into smaller groups for targeted lessons and special area classes.
Students who are ready to excel have the opportunity to transition into general education, while those who need more support know they can always rely on our dedicated special education team. Unlike some public and charter schools that have moved away from self-contained programs, we remain committed to individualized attention that helps students make meaningful progress.
Most importantly, our children are never isolated. They share specials, recess, and faith-filled moments with their peers, creating bonds of friendship that extend beyond the classroom walls.
Believing in the power of early intervention, we expanded our program several years ago to include kindergarten through second grade. Every class has at least two adults—either co-teachers or a teacher with an assistant. Today, our classes continue to follow this model:
Kindergarten and First Grade (combined)
Second and Third Grade (combined)
Fourth Grade Grade (standalone)
Fifth Grade (inclusive)
Sixth Grade (inclusive)
Seventh Grade (standalone)
Eighth Grade (standalone)
At HRSR, we are proud to foster a welcoming environment rooted in inclusivity and respect for all children with learning differences.
